THE LETTER by Paolo Nani – one of the world’s best comic actors – is an extremely simple performance inspired by French writer and poet Raymond Queneau’s work Exercises in Style (1947).

Paolo Nani, alone on stage, with props that could be in one suitcase, gives life to 15 different versions of the same, almost banal story: It is played forwards, backwards, with surprises, vulgar, without hands, like a western, like a silent film, like a horror film, like a circus act… without a single word being said. The performance is an exuberant study in styles, full of surprises and gags that do not leave the audience’s laughing muscles a single moment of pause during the 70 minutes it lasts.

The performance has been described as cult by the Danish as well as the international press and is a classic within the comedic physical theatre.

Since 1992, the show has been presented in 43 countries, in all four continents. More than 1,600 performances have been made with this laugh-out-loud classic, which continues to surprise, even if you have seen it many times.
